Vildštejn

Vildštejn is a castle ruin perched on a rocky promontory above the Chrudimka Valley, with views over the Seč Reservoir from its elevated location. The site consists of stone remains that show medieval fortress architecture.

The fortress was constructed in the late 13th century and initially belonged to Hrabiš von Poběnice. It was later besieged multiple times, particularly during the Hussite Wars, which shows its strategic importance in the region.

The ruins represent a valued cultural monument of the Czech Republic that displays typical medieval defensive features visitors can observe while exploring. The stone structures show how defensive architecture was built in this region during that era.

The ruin can be reached via a marked hiking trail from Seč that passes through a 30 meter tunnel built during the reservoir's construction. The trail is well-marked and offers an interesting mix of walking and historical surroundings.

The reservoir nearly submerged the castle ruin completely, so a tunnel was specifically blasted through the mountain to preserve road access. This engineering solution is a rare example of modern infrastructure coexisting with a historical site.
