Hodíškovský rybník, Natural monument north of Hodíškov, Czech Republic

Hodíškovský rybník is a shallow pond of about 3.8 ha at 580–582 m north of Hodíškov, the core of a roughly 5 ha protected area. Its head end carries reed and bulrush beds, sedge lines its banks, and alder rows flank it; the Hodíškovský potok flows out and reaches the Oslava after about 6.6 km.

The pond was formerly managed as a nursery pond for fish fry and was therefore regularly partially drained each year; the rich vegetation of its exposed pond bed was last recorded in 2004. The drained bottom has hosted tens of thousands of individuals of the European important species puchýřka útlá and a population of the critically endangered Tillaea aquatica, estimated at one hundred to a thousand plants. The site is now a protected natural monument of about five hectares north of Hodíškov.

The name Hodíškovský rybník is misleading: maps label this pond Kroužek, while Hodíškovský rybník is the village pond downstream in Hodíškov, which is not protected. The protected pond was formerly managed as a nursery pond for fry and was regularly partly drained in summer.

The protected area lies at 580–582 m just north of Hodíškov, centred on the shallow Kroužek pond, which maps label Kroužek while the name Hodíškovský rybník belongs to the village pond downstream. The mown meadow beside the pond is cut in May, July and August/September, so the sward stays short; expect wet, soft ground near the shoreline and the waterlogged alder stand.

The pond is called Kroužek on maps; the name Hodíškovský rybník belongs to the village pond downstream in Hodíškov, which is not protected. The protected pond was formerly managed as a nursery pond and partly drained each year, and its exposed bed last showed its rich vegetation in 2004.
