Boskovice Reservoir, reservoir in Boskovice, Czech Republic
Boskovice Reservoir is a water storage facility on the Bělá River near the town, extending through a narrow valley and bordered by forested slopes. The dam rises above 40 meters high and stretches over 300 meters across, with a paved road running along its top.
The reservoir was built between 1985 and 1989 to manage flooding and provide water supply for the region. Major renovations carried out from 2017 to 2018 improved the dam's safety and expanded the spillway capacity.
The reservoir serves as a quiet retreat where locals come to enjoy nature and observe wildlife in their natural habitat. The wooded slopes and open water form a landscape that people regard as part of their countryside identity.
A paved pathway runs along the top of the dam and is open to walkers and cyclists, with viewing points offering panoramic views. Swimming and boating are not permitted in the reservoir, but maintained trails around the area provide accessible routes for walking and birdwatching.
Before the dam was built, a small canal called Suchý-Šmelcovna operated in this location, transporting logs from nearby forests to a sawmill for processing. This historical connection reveals how the site transformed from a timber transportation route to a flood management structure.
