Podhora Reservoir, lake in Ovesné Kladruby, Karlovy Vary Region, Czech Republic
Podhora Reservoir is a water storage basin near Ovesne Kladruby in the Czech Republic, formed by a straight earthen and stone dam. The structure extends about 280 meters in length and rises over 10 meters high, holding more than three million cubic meters of water for the surrounding region.
The reservoir was built between 1952 and 1956 to store water and supply the surrounding region. The project was completed during a period of regional reconstruction and helped stabilize the area through reliable water management.
The reservoir serves the local communities as a central water source and gathering place for walks and reflection. Residents use the dam area regularly for recreation and wildlife watching, making it an integral part of their everyday surroundings.
The area around the reservoir is easily accessible on foot or by car, with simple paths suitable for walking and cycling. Visits are best enjoyed in dry weather when the paths are easily navigable and you can see the surrounding open fields and trees.
The water surface freezes slightly along the edges during winter months, visibly showing how the site responds to seasonal changes. This simple observation reveals how the structure remains quietly connected to the natural rhythms of its surroundings despite its engineered purpose.
