Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a Baroque structure featuring three naves with a Gothic transept and Renaissance chancel. The building combines architectural elements from different periods into a single unified space.

The original Romanesque structure dating to 1142 was eventually replaced by a Gothic basilica that underwent significant Baroque transformation in the 18th century. Jan Santini Aichel directed these major renovation works.

The church displays frescoes of the Holy Trinity painted by Jakub Jan Steinfels and artworks by notable Bohemian masters on its interior walls. These works shape how the space feels and reflect the artistic traditions of the region.

The church sits near the Monastery of Premonstratensians and welcomes visitors throughout the year for personal exploration. Regular services take place on a set schedule that you can check in advance.

The bell tower was built between 1490 and 1493 and served as a time signal for local miners in the area. Its bells announced the start of work shifts and were deeply connected to the daily rhythm of the community.
