Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Baroque church in Neratov, Czech Republic

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a Baroque church above Neratov, 48 m long, 19 m wide and 18–20 m high, with its facade facing south and the presbytery north. Its roof was destroyed in 1945, so the single hall now stands open, covered since 2006 by a partly glazed roof; the curved apse wall keeps a crucifix marked INRI above a niche with a small figure and a wooden table.

Construction took place between 1723 and 1733, establishing it as a major Baroque work in the region. A Soviet projectile struck the building in 1945, causing a fire that destroyed the roof completely.

The church has served as a pilgrimage site since the 17th century, drawing people from across the region to participate in religious ceremonies and events. It remains an important spiritual center for the local community.

The church is generally open to visitors on a regular basis, though specific times apply for tower access and guided tours exploring the restoration work. Wear sturdy shoes as the hilltop location involves climbing and uneven ground.

The glass roof installed in 2006 was designed by Jiří Starý and Petr Dostál, twenty years after the last demolition proposal of 1973. The church measures 48 m in length, 19 m in width and 18 to 20 m in height, with its facade facing south and the presbytery to the north.
