Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Přeštice, Baroque church in Přeštice, Czech Republic

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a cruciform baroque basilica with a two-tower facade, built 1748–1775 to plans by Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer. Its two-storey exterior has concave-curved tower sides and a projecting central section with paired columns; the towers, raised to 52 m in 1993–1995, carry a stone group of the Sorrowful Mother of Přeštice and a gilded Benedictine cross.

A chapel stood on the Pohořko hill before 1245, later replaced by a Gothic church that proved too small in the early 18th century. The Benedictines of Kladruby commissioned Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer to build the present church from 1748; after his death in 1751 František Ignác Prée, Anselmo Lurago and Antonín Haffenecker continued the work until it stopped in 1775. The towers were finished only in 1993–1995.

The church remains an active place of Catholic worship and serves as a gathering space for religious celebrations throughout the year. Locals continue to use it for daily prayers and significant religious occasions.

The building is generally open to visitors, particularly during religious services and celebrations when respecting local customs is important. Checking opening hours in advance is helpful, as access may be limited to specific times aligned with the church's religious calendar.

The church holds a wooden Gothic statue of Saint Barbara from the early 16th century, attributed to the Master of the Všeruby Madonna, kept in the Saint Barbara chapel. In the sacristy a shell-shaped lavabo has a brass tap shaped like a snake's head with a mermaid seated on it.
