Hranice Chateau, Baroque château in Hranice, Czech Republic

Hranice Chateau is a Baroque château featuring symmetrical wings arranged around a central courtyard enclosed by stone walls. The structure displays classical architectural details characteristic of its style and period of construction.

The site began as a medieval fortress that the Pernštejn family transformed during the 16th century with major renovations. These changes replaced Gothic elements with Baroque features, creating the building that stands today.

The château has served as the town hall (městský úřad) since the 20th century, not as a museum. After reconstruction, the courtyard received a glass roof, creating a bright atrium. The tower still carries the weather vane from the era of Zdeněk Žampach of Potštejn (1600–1609).

The château stands in Hranice I-Město and now houses the municipal office, so visitors enter the courtyard rather than touring historic rooms. A glass roof installed during reconstruction covers that courtyard, turning it into a bright atrium. The Zámecká street front and the tower with its octagonal top and conical roof are visible from outside.

The château's cylindrical tower core dates from the Pernštejn rebuilding of roughly 1480–1514; Jan Kropáč of Nevědomí later added an octagonal upper storey with a conical roof and hoarding gallery. The weather vane on the tower survives from the tenure of Zdeněk Žampach of Potštejn, 1600–1609.
