Fulštejn Castle

Fulshtejn is a medieval castle ruin sitting on a forested hilltop above the Osoblaha River, with remaining towers and defensive walls still visible. The structure shows clear signs of its original fortification layout, built to guard this strategic location.

The castle was built in the mid-1200s as a royal fortress to watch over trade routes passing through the valley. Swedish forces attacked and damaged it in 1649, leading to its eventual decline.

The ruins bear the name of a medieval noble family that controlled the region for centuries. Today, visitors walking through the site can sense how this family maintained its authority over the valley below.

The hike up to the ruins follows marked trails starting from Bohušov village and is straightforward to navigate. Wear sturdy shoes and bring rain gear, as the steep paths can be muddy and conditions vary with the weather.

Below the ruins lies a network of tunnels that once connected different parts of the fortress, allowing the garrison to move about during attacks. These passages are still partially visible today and reveal the military sophistication of medieval builders.
