Kacabaja, reservoir in Hodslavice, Czech Republic
Kacabaja is a water reservoir located near Hodslavice in the Czech Republic. It is fed by small local streams, including the Zrzavka River, and features grass-covered beaches, changing cabins, a clay volleyball court, a long pier, and parking nearby.
The dam was built in 1973 to protect the town of Hodslavice from flooding. With a length of 175 meters (575 feet) and a height of 7 meters (23 feet), it has served as a vital flood defense for the region ever since.
The name Kacabaja refers to the water body in the local landscape and has roots in the regional language. Today, locals and visitors gather here for swimming, fishing, and socializing, making it a meeting point for the community.
The reservoir is easy to reach by car and has a parking area near the dam. Visitors should know that the water is not supervised, so caution is needed when swimming, especially in deeper areas.
Each summer, a fun competition called O valaskeho ftaka takes place here, where visitors launch handmade, human-powered flying machines from a ramp into the water. It is a creative event that turns the reservoir into a lively scene of invention and entertainment.
