Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary in Duchcov

The Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary is a baroque religious building standing in Duchcov alongside the castle complex and forming part of the town's visual identity. It features symmetrical design elements and ornamented exterior walls, with its eastern facade opening directly toward the town square.

The structure was designed by architect Marco Antonio Canevalle as an integral part of the Duchcov Castle complex. After centuries serving as a parish church, it was decommissioned in 2019 and no longer functions as an active religious site.

The church served as a gathering place for the local community and continues to define the character of Duchcov's town center. Its baroque design reflects how religious buildings shaped the everyday landscape and social rhythms of this region.

The building is easily visible from the town square and can be viewed from the outside, though access to the interior is no longer possible. The best vantage point for observing it is from the center of the square, where the entire eastern facade comes into full view.

The building was positioned as a standalone structure next to the castle rather than subordinate to it, sitting as an architectural peer within the same courtyard. This placement creates an unusual relationship between the religious structure and the nobleman's residence, giving each equal visual weight.
