Kostel svaté Kateřiny Alexandrijské

Saint Catherine of Alexandria Church is a house of worship featuring Gothic and Renaissance elements in Chrudim. The interior is supported by eight pillars and displays a vault with intersecting ribs, while the western entrance is framed by pointed arches and early Renaissance columns.

The building began as a hospital chapel in the late 1400s. Major reconstruction in the early 1500s expanded the main hall and introduced Renaissance features.

The church carries the name of a Christian martyr and shows how religious buildings became centers of community life in medieval towns. Stone carvings inside reflect the craftsmanship valued in local society.

The building sits in the old town center on a main street and is easy to reach on foot. You can view the architecture from outside and from nearby squares, and the location offers good visibility of the details.

The western entrance was completed in 1536 and shows a blend of late Gothic arches and early Renaissance columns, a rare example of this transition in the region. This combination makes the entrance a striking feature for those tracing architectural history.
