Crocodile ZOO Protivín

Crocodile ZOO Protivín is a reptile breeding facility located in a converted barn, housing over 100 specimens of various crocodilian species. The collection includes alligators, caimans, and gavials, with some animals reaching several meters in length.

The facility was established in 2008 by Miroslav Procházka, building on private breeding efforts in a converted 18th-century barn. This transformation of the historic structure allowed the creation of a specialized crocodilian center.

The facility takes its focus from the creatures that live here, with exhibits showing how crocodiles and their relatives occupy different habitats around the world. Visitors can observe how these animals interact with their environments and understand their place in nature.

The facility welcomes visitors throughout the year with adjusted opening hours depending on the season. Comfortable footwear is recommended, and you should plan enough time to explore the various enclosures and the museum displays at a relaxed pace.

The facility maintains the only breeding pair of Indian gavials in Europe, remarkable animals that receive specialized care within controlled conditions. These rare reptiles are nearly extinct in the wild, making their presence here particularly noteworthy for conservation efforts.
