Monerstampejo en Jáchymov

The Monerstampejo in Jáchymov is a former mint building displaying Gothic and Renaissance architectural elements with stone walls, carved portals, and detailed historical features. Inside, exhibition rooms present collections of historical coins, mining artifacts, and documents that document regional monetary development.

The building dates to the 16th century when it minted silver coins known as Joachimsthalers. These coins became so well-known that their name later became the foundation for the European currencies called Thaler and ultimately Dollar.

The place takes its name from the silver coins minted here, which became known as Joachimsthalers and influenced later currency names across Europe. Visitors experience how these coins shaped regional trade and economic life during their time of production.

The building is located in the town center and is accessible from April through October. Guided tours in multiple languages can be arranged in advance to enhance your visit.

The building preserves original minting equipment and tools from the 16th century that show how silver coins were produced in medieval times. These rare machines allow visitors to understand the complete production process that was necessary back then.
