Hradiště Lštění s kostelem svatého Klimenta

Hradiště Lštění with its Church of Saint Clement sits on a triangular rocky promontory above the left bank of the Sázava River, rising roughly 80 to 100 meters above the river valley. The complex is defended by a curved rampart on the eastern side that extends for a considerable distance and rises several meters high.

The settlement emerged between the 9th and 10th centuries as a strategic point along important trade routes and remained inhabited until the 12th century. This location on the Sázava River made it a key position for controlling regional traffic in medieval Bohemia.

The Church of Saint Clement displays Gothic architectural features typical of medieval Bohemian religious buildings. The chapel stands at the center of the settlement and continues to define the appearance of this historical place.

The site is accessible from the eastern side, with the ascent marked by natural rock formations and historical fortifications. Visitors should expect uneven terrain and steep slopes and wear appropriate footwear.

Excavations have revealed stone walls of varying widths that were stabilized with wooden supports and earth-stone materials. This building technique shows how medieval builders created sturdy fortifications without modern methods.
