Lamberk, Castle ruin in Březník, Czech Republic
Lamberk is a castle ruin perched on a steep ridge along the left bank of the Oslava River, southwest of Březník village. The remains show the structure of a medieval fortification with wall fragments and foundations scattered across different levels of the hillside.
Jaroslav z Kninic built the castle between 1364 and 1376 as a family residence and defensive structure. His son Jan Sokol later used it as a military base, though the site was eventually abandoned over time.
The name Lamberk likely comes from a Slavic word meaning lambs, suggesting the area once served pastoral purposes. Today visitors walking through the ruins can sense how the location shaped the lives of those who lived and worked here.
The ruins can be reached by a dirt path from Březník or by following the marked red hiking trail through the surrounding forest. The visit is most enjoyable in dry conditions since the hillside is steep and the terrain uneven.
The castle area sits on granulite rock formations containing minerals such as quartz, garnet, and kyanite. This geological feature adds a scientific interest to the site beyond its historical role, making the landscape itself part of the story.
