Pec pod Sněžkou - Sněžka cableway, Aerial lift in Pec pod Sněžkou, Czech Republic
The Sněžka cableway links Pec pod Sněžkou to the summit of Mount Sněžka at 1,603 meters elevation, climbing through changing landscapes over roughly 45 minutes. Along the route, the terrain shifts from forested slopes to open alpine areas as you gain altitude.
The cableway opened in 1949 as an early transport project in the Krkonoše region. A major renovation between 2012 and 2014 replaced the aging system with modern equipment and larger cable cars.
The cableway serves as a central connection point for Czech mountain tourism, linking the town to numerous hiking trails across the Krkonoše Mountains.
The ascent takes about 45 minutes and visitors should bring weather-appropriate clothing since conditions at the summit can be harsh. Once at the top, you can find refreshments and viewpoints overlooking the surrounding mountains and neighboring Poland.
The modern cable cars accommodate four passengers and automatically detach from the main cable when entering the stations, allowing smooth boarding without jolts. This design makes the ride accessible and comfortable for all ages and fitness levels.
