Lom Kozolupy, protected area in Czech Republic

Welcome to the Natural Monument of Lom Kozolupy, located approximately 1.5 km south of the village of Kozolupy in the Beroun district. This protected area is managed by the Czech Environmental Protection Agency - Regional Office for Central Bohemia. The reason for its protection is its significant paleontological site. The quarry is an internationally important site for several species of brachiopods, described here in the second half of the 20th century. Endangered plant species grow in the area, such as the moss tufted saxifrage. A detailed zoological survey of the site has not yet been conducted. Among mammals, you may spot a red fox or a European badger. To fully appreciate the beauty and significance of this natural monument, we recommend taking a guided tour. Your guide will provide you with interesting information about the history and geology of the area, as well as the flora and fauna that inhabit it. As you explore the site, you will see the impressive quarry walls, which are up to 30 meters high. These walls reveal the geological history of the area, dating back millions of years. You will also have the opportunity to observe the unique and diverse plant life that thrives in this protected area. If you are interested in paleontology, your guide can show you the fossils of brachiopods that have been found in the quarry. These ancient creatures lived in the seas that covered this area over 300 million years ago. The Natural Monument of Lom Kozolupy is a must-see destination for nature lovers and those interested in geology and paleontology. Don't miss the chance to experience this unique and fascinating site.
