The Church of Saints Peter and Paul is a Baroque building in Rajhrad featuring three hall sections, each with different vault systems and geometric patterns. The elongated interior space displays these architectural details clearly and shapes the overall character of the structure.
The foundation of this church building took place in the early 18th century and its completion stretched across two decades. The structure emerged during a period of active religious construction in the region.
The three domes carry ceiling paintings completed in 1729 by the painter Jan Jiří Etgens. Sculptural work inside and out was made by Ignác Lengelacher up to 1734, and the church was consecrated on 7 June 1739. The choir vault, rebuilt after an earthquake, was painted by Josef Winterhalder the Younger.
The church stands within the Benedictine monastery complex in Rajhrad, south of Brno. The nave is entered from the west; the facade leans slightly and is held by a massive buttress added after 1728. The floor rests on oak piles driven into former marshy ground.
The building was designed by a leading architect of the period who combined mathematical precision with traditional orientation principles. This appears in the careful geometry of the spaces that influences the whole interior arrangement.
