Meandry Botiče, Natural monument in Hostivař and Záběhlice, Czech Republic.
Meandry Botiče is a protected natural area situated along the Botič stream in the southeast sections of Prague. The site features curved waterway bends, riverside plant life, and animals that thrive in this riparian environment.
The area gained official protection status in 1968 when Prague authorities acted to preserve natural sections of the city's waterways. This designation helped safeguard the stream's natural curves and surrounding plant communities from development.
Local farmers supplied Prague with cabbage and strawberries from fields near the Botič stream for over seven thousand years.
The site is accessible by public transport or through parking areas in Hostivař and Záběhlice neighborhoods. Multiple walking paths run through the protected land, making it easy to explore on foot at your own pace.
Each autumn the Rio Botičo kayaking event brings paddlers down the stream from Hostivař Reservoir to the Vltava River. This journey highlights how the waterway connects the outer reaches of Prague to its central river system.
