Otmíčská hora, Natural monument in Otmíče, Czech Republic.
Otmíčska hora is a basalt hill in Otmíče village that rises to 401 meters above sea level. An old quarry cut into the slope exposes rock layers from the Ordovician period that came from the Komárov volcanic center.
People settled on this hill during the Neolithic period and continued to live here through the Iron Age and into the early Middle Ages. The long history of occupation shows how important this location was to the communities in the region.
The site shows traces of settlements from different periods in prehistory, revealing how various communities lived in this part of central Bohemia. Walking through the area, you can sense the long human presence that shaped this landscape.
You can reach the hill via a blue marked walking trail that runs from Lochovice toward Žebrák, with an unmarked path connecting from Otmíče village to the hilltop. The walk is easiest during warmer months when the paths are in good condition.
The abandoned quarry displays an unusual weathering pattern where the tuff rocks have broken into near-spherical shapes ranging from less than a meter to about 2 meters across. This distinctive spherical weathering is one of the most striking visual features visitors encounter here.
