Maková hora

Maková hora is a summit in Central Bohemia topped by a Baroque chapel that shapes the landscape's character. From the peak, views extend across the rolling countryside and down to Smolotely village at its base.

The site gained prominence in 1718 when a knight built a Baroque chapel dedicated to religious figures important to the region. During World War II, the chapel's bells were melted down for weapons production, leaving the site altered.

The chapel on the summit served as a place of worship for surrounding villages and continues to shape how locals relate to the landscape. People visited on special occasions, making it an important part of the area's spiritual life.

The summit is accessible via marked trails starting from Smolotely village, making it easy to find your way up. The paths are well-maintained and the climb is manageable for most visitors without special equipment.

A Capuchin friar lived on the mountain during the 1990s and personally guided visitors through the site, creating an unusual bond between the place and its community. This chapter shows how individual people can shape and enrich a location.
