The Jan Žižka Memorial near Sudoměř is a 16-metre monument assembled from stone blocks, showing the commander with a helmet on his head and a mace in his right hand. It stands between the Markovec and Škaredý ponds, close to the South Bohemian village of Sudoměř in the Strakonice district.
The monument commemorates the Battle of Sudoměř fought on March 25, 1420, where approximately 400 Hussite forces defeated 2,000 royal troops during the Hussite Wars.
Near the monument stand four 2.5-metre wooden figures of Hussite warriors — Břeněk, Jan, Mikuláš and Viktorin — carved by Ivan Šmilauer from a single five-metre oak torn up by a storm. Their number recalls the roughly 400 Hussites who fought at Sudoměř. A pair of memorial oaks, the Princess Hedvika Twins, grows alongside.
Visitors can reach the memorial by car with parking available one kilometer away, or by following green and blue hiking trails that lead directly to the monument.
Four wooden statues of Hussite warriors carved from a single storm-felled oak tree in 2011 stand near the main monument, representing courage and unity of the movement.
