Most Dr. Edvarda Beneše, Road bridge in Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic
Most Dr. Edvarda Beneše is a steel road bridge spanning the Elbe River with expressionist architectural features and a reinforced concrete deck. The structure was assembled with approximately 140,000 rivets throughout its steel framework.
The structure was completed in 1936 as a sign of modern engineering achievement. It went through multiple name changes during the occupation period before receiving its current name after 1990.
The bridge carries the name of a Czechoslovak president and reflects the post-World War II period through its commemorations. Visitors can see a memorial plaque marking significant events from July 31, 1945.
The bridge connects the districts of Ústí nad Labem-město and Střekov, allowing traffic for both vehicles and pedestrians across the river. It is designed for regular use and easy to navigate.
At its completion, it held the record for the longest span between piers in Czechoslovakia, setting an important standard for bridge construction of that era. This engineering achievement was remarkable for the time.
