Nuselské schody

The Nuselské schody is a large granite staircase that connects two streets in Prague and spans over 180 steps arranged in multiple sections. The construction features iron railings on both sides and is built from massive stone blocks that remain solid and well-defined.

This granite staircase was built in the 1890s to create a reliable connection between neighborhoods. The construction replaced simpler earlier steps and made the route safer and easier to navigate.

These stairs form a vital link between two neighborhoods that locals use as part of their daily movement through the area. You can observe how residents interact with the space and navigate the hillside as part of their regular routines.

The staircase is easy to walk and offers a direct way to cross the elevation change in the area. The steps have a comfortable height and stable railings, so older people or those carrying bags can navigate safely.

Halfway up the staircase stands a small chapel dedicated to the Holy Family, offering a quiet spot to pause. This religious structure from earlier times adds an unexpected depth to what is otherwise an ordinary pedestrian route.
