Nákladové nádraží Žižkov, Former railway station in Žižkov, Czech Republic.
Nákladové nádraží Žižkov is a former freight railway station with a three-winged main building from the 1930s that demonstrates functionalist industrial design. The structure contains multiple floors of storage facilities and now hosts art exhibitions and cultural events in its adapted spaces.
The station opened in 1936 to reduce congestion in central Prague and operated until 2002 when transportation needs shifted. Architects Karel Caivas and Vladimir Weiss designed the building with innovative industrial solutions for cargo handling.
The site was designated a national monument in 2010 and represents how the country values its industrial heritage. Visitors can see why preservers consider this building important for understanding 20th century Czech architecture and industrial design.
The site is located in Žižkov and accessible to visitors interested in art exhibitions and cultural events. The area is well connected by public transport and the spacious halls allow comfortable exploration without crowding.
The building remained largely abandoned and deteriorated after its closure before gradually being revived for cultural use in recent years. Redevelopment plans envision integrating residential, office, and cultural spaces on the historic site.
