Birth house of Sigmund Freud, Psychoanalysis museum in Příbor, Czech Republic.
The three-story building at 17 Zámečnická Street in Příbor documents the early years of a prominent thinker through photographs, letters, and personal objects from the 19th century. The rooms are arranged to show how his family lived during his childhood in this house.
The family moved into this house in 1856 and the future founder of psychoanalysis was born here, spending his first three years in these rooms. The building was later converted into a museum to preserve his legacy and his roots in Bohemia.
The museum displays works by Czech illustrator Vladimír Jiránek and explores how Freud's ideas were received and debated across Europe during his lifetime. You can see how his theories challenged the thinking of his era.
The museum is located in the center of Příbor and can be reached on foot. Wear comfortable shoes since the old staircase in the house is narrow and steep.
During renovations in 2006, workers discovered original household items from the 19th century that are now displayed to show what daily life looked like in a middle-class home of that era. These findings offer visitors an authentic window into the routines and living conditions of the period.
