Porubský bludný balvan, Natural monument in Poruba, Czech Republic
Porubský bludný balvan is a granite boulder resting on a stone foundation with steel plates along Vresinska Street. The rock displays visible pink feldspar crystals throughout its surface.
The boulder was discovered in 1928 near Porubka stream and moved to the village by local teacher Josef Hurnik. The commemorative plaque and its inscription were later removed during a period of occupation.
The boulder served as a gathering point where villagers met and shared their daily lives. The inscription on its plaque once expressed the hopes and values of the local community.
The boulder is located on Vresinska Street and is easy to visit as it sits in a central and visible spot. The site is accessible on most days and requires no special preparation.
Weighing about 11 tons, this erratic boulder was transported from Scandinavia by ancient glaciers and left behind as a geological relic. Its mineral composition includes plagioclase, quartz, biotite, magnetite, apatite, and titanite.
