Plaviště, Natural monument in Soseň, Czech Republic
Plaviště is a protected natural area near Soseň built around a central pond with extensive wetlands surrounding it. The site supports specialized plant communities and various amphibian species that depend on these damp conditions.
The area was designated as a protected natural monument by the Czech government in November 1990 to preserve its wetland ecosystems. This decision has since protected the rare plants and animals found here from destruction.
This protected area draws nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers who come to experience the different habitats found here. The open water and reed beds create a quiet place where visitors can understand how wetlands work.
The site is accessible through marked hiking trails from the village of Kosobody or starting from Plaveč, with both routes passing through natural terrain. Wear sturdy footwear since the ground can be damp and trails sometimes get muddy.
The pond functions as the source of the Kosobodský stream, which flows out from this central point into the surrounding landscape. This role as a water source makes the location an important point in the local water system.
