Pöttingovský palác, Baroque palace in Old Town, Czech Republic
The Pöttingovský palác is a baroque building in the Old Town with a distinctive sandstone facade and elaborate interior details. Inside, rooms flow into one another with stucco work and historical furnishings that reflect different phases of renovation.
Jan Santini Aichel, a leading architect of his time, transformed two medieval buildings into a baroque palace in 1726. This redesign merged gothic foundations with Renaissance elements and baroque style into a new whole.
The building now houses the Ta Fantastika Theater and the Museum of Czech Garnet, which draw visitors regularly. These institutions shape daily activity in the palace and turn it into a place where performance and craftsmanship come together.
The building sits on Karlova Street and is easily reached on foot from the main squares of the Old Town. A visit fits well with other sights in the area, as the palace sits centrally in the heart of the historic city.
Inside the entrance vestibule sits a sandstone fountain from the 15th century that originally stood elsewhere. The piece was relocated to its current spot during renovation work and remains one of the palace's oldest elements.
