Pňovany Bridge, Railway bridge in Pňovany, Czech Republic.
The Pňovany Bridge is a railway structure that spans across the Hracholusky Reservoir, rising 37 meters above the water surface. The bridge extends for 210 meters and forms an important crossing for rail traffic in the region.
Construction of this railway structure began in 1899 and was completed in 1901, establishing a new rail connection between Pňovany and Bezdružice. The project represented an important step in improving transportation links during the Austro-Hungarian period.
The bridge connects two communities and serves as part of the regional rail network in the Pilzen area. It is used daily by commuters and train passengers, shaping how people experience the landscape around the reservoir.
The bridge is best explored from the reservoir area or the surrounding landscape, as direct access to the structure itself is limited. A daytime visit makes it easier to see the structure clearly against the water backdrop.
In 2018 and 2019, the bridge underwent a major renewal using an innovative method in which new steel components were shifted into place by rotating them around a horizontal axis. This specialized technique allowed rail traffic to continue with minimal disruption during the work.
