Sluňákov was founded in 2006 by the city of Olomouc as a public benefit organisation, and its low-energy building in Horka nad Moravou was designed by Projektil Architekti and won the Grand Prix architektů 2007. The centre continues earlier activities, notably the Ekologické dny Olomouc festival, held annually since 1990.

The center displays exhibitions about local wildlife and regional nature traditions, connecting visitor knowledge with community customs. Workshops here help people understand how their surroundings shape daily life.
