Přírodní park Prokopské a Dalejské údolí, Nature park in southwestern Prague, Czech Republic
Prirodni park Prokopske a Dalejske udoli is a nature park in southwestern Prague featuring deep valleys carved through limestone with numerous rock formations and stone exposures along two intersecting streams. The landscape displays characteristics of the Bohemian Karst region, including abandoned quarries and varied geological layers.
The area was designated a nature reserve in 1993 to protect its fossil deposits, rare plant species, and geological formations representing the northernmost section of the Bohemian Karst. This protected status reflects the region's paleontological and natural importance.
The park is shaped by two historic railway lines, including the Prague Semmering route, which crosses the landscape on twenty-meter-high viaducts built in Alpine style. These structures show how older infrastructure was integrated into the valley and continues to define its appearance today.
Multiple marked hiking paths, cycling routes, and educational trails connect various access points from the Jinonice, Hlubočepy, Butovice, and Řeporyje districts. Sturdy footwear is recommended since some paths are steep and rocky.
The Hlubočepy Small Lake is a former limestone quarry that filled with water, creating an unexpected water body in the rocky landscape. From its shores, visitors gain striking views of the surrounding rock walls and geological layers.
