Rychtrův dům, Cultural monument in Malé náměstí, Czech Republic
Rychtrův dům is a residential building on the Old Town Square that combines multiple architectural styles within a single structure. Its facade displays Gothic elements from the medieval period alongside Renaissance and Baroque details, completed with Neoclassical ornaments.
The structure formed through the combination of multiple buildings that were altered and rebuilt between the 14th and 18th centuries. A Neoclassical entrance portal was added toward the end of the 18th century.
The building's name comes from a former mayor who lived here, and its facade tells the story of Prague's changing tastes through each architectural layer. Visitors walking across the square can see these different periods layered one atop another.
The building sits directly on the Old Town Square and is easily reached on foot. The area has good public transport connections and many places nearby to eat and rest.
Inside the building remain traces of a medieval pharmacy that once operated there. These remnants make the house a silent witness to Prague's medical past.
