The birth house of Bedřich Smetana occupies the ground floor of a former castle brewery in Litomyšl. Its exhibition, a branch of the Regional Museum in Litomyšl, displays a grand piano, bed, cradle, other furniture, toys, paintings and household items from the early 19th century.

Smetana was born in 1824 in this building, where his father worked as the castle brewer. The house witnessed the arrival of a major figure in Czech musical history.

The rooms show how young Smetana grew up and first encountered music in his family home. Visitors can see how a prosperous craftsman's family lived during the early 19th century.

The exhibition is open to the public from April to October, so plan a visit within that season. The museum is a branch of the Regional Museum in Litomyšl, which stands nearby, and the ground-floor rooms are reached on foot from the town centre.

The building retains its original Baroque modifications from 1730, featuring decorative sgraffito elements that echo the adjacent castle. These ornaments reveal how the structures in Litomyšl were artistically linked to one another.
