Rabštejn Castle, ruïne in Dukovany, Tsjechië
Rabštejn Castle is a ruin located on two steep rocky outcrops near Dukovany, Czech Republic, standing about 80 to 115 feet (25 to 35 meters) high. The remaining walls and towers show the original defensive layout of what was once a fortified stronghold.
The castle was built in the 13th century and served as a defensive stronghold and noble residence for centuries. In the 17th century, it was enlarged to protect against Ottoman threats, but by the 18th century it was abandoned and gradually fell into decay.
The name Rabštejn comes from Slavic roots and refers to the castle's setting on two large rocky outcrops. Today, visitors come here to connect with medieval life and imagine how people once lived within these walls.
The site is accessible via a small path from nearby parking, though reaching the rocks requires climbing with a ladder. Wear sturdy shoes with good grip since the terrain is uneven and climbing to the top involves some physical effort.
The rocky outcrops attract climbers who seek the challenge of the ascent and sweeping views across the Moravian countryside and toward the Hrubý Jeseník mountains. This combination of rock climbing and historical exploration makes the site distinctive.
