Moravec Castle, Renaissance château in Moravec, Czech Republic
Moravec Castle is a Neoclassical château set on elevated ground with three wings forming an open courtyard. Its white exterior is defined by arcade loggias that run throughout the building's structure.
The building began as a medieval fortress in 1347 and was transformed into a Renaissance château during the early 17th century. This shift reflects a change from military to residential and representational purposes.
The chapel inside was converted in 1794 and now serves as the Church of the Finding and Exaltation of the Holy Cross. This space shows how the building has taken on different religious purposes over time.
Visiting the castle requires advance planning, so contact the management at +420 778 743 951 or moravec@mzm.cz before your trip. Early communication ensures you can arrange access to the grounds and interiors.
The castle grounds contain a 3-hectare English-style park planted with rare exotic species by Count Gabriel Gudenius in the late 1800s. This gardens is one of the region's lesser-discussed green spaces, offering visitors a quiet retreat from the main structure.
