Tachov Castle, Neoclassical castle in Tachov, Czech Republic.
Tachov Castle is a neoclassical castle in the town of Tachov in the Czech Republic, with a symmetrical facade and regularly arranged exterior. It is surrounded by a ring of walls with several towers that enclose the whole complex.
The site goes back to a medieval fortress that once served as a defensive stronghold in the region. In the early 19th century, the building was extensively rebuilt and given its current neoclassical look.
The castle now houses a museum where visitors can see regional collections and objects from the surrounding area. Temporary exhibitions cover different themes tied to the history and crafts of the local region.
The castle sits in the center of Tachov and is easy to reach on foot from the town center. Visiting outside the main summer season tends to be quieter and allows more time to look around at a relaxed pace.
The surrounding wall and its towers survived from the medieval phase and were kept when the main building was rebuilt in the 19th century. This contrast between old stonework and the neoclassical main building is clearly visible as you walk around the complex.
