Stádlec Suspension Bridge, Chain bridge in Stádlec, Czech Republic
Stádlec Suspension Bridge is a 157-meter-long chain bridge supported by four chains arranged in two pairs and two stone pylons. The structure spans 6 meters in width to connect two areas across the gap it bridges.
The bridge was originally built in 1848 at Podolsko and carefully taken apart in 1960 before being reassembled at its present location in 1975. This relocation saved the structure from being submerged by a water project.
This bridge stands as the last remaining chain bridge built in the Empire style across the Czech Republic. It displays the engineering methods of an earlier era through its distinctive arrangement of chains and stone supports.
Vehicles weighing less than 1.5 tons can cross the bridge, and an electronic system continuously monitors the moisture level of the wood. A maintenance platform underneath allows for regular inspections and repairs.
Following renovation in 2021, the bridge received oak timber sourced from Croatia and underwent technical upgrades to ensure structural durability. These works demonstrate the commitment to preserving a structure built over 170 years ago for future generations.
