Střelecký ostrov

Střelecký ostrov is a tree-covered strip of land within the Vltava River that connects the old and newer districts of the city. The island features pathways and open areas suitable for walking, sitting, and observing the river from different vantage points.

The island takes its name from its role in the 15th century as a training ground for archers and crossbowmen. This military purpose defined the site's importance to the city during the medieval period.

A restaurant building from 1812 survived multiple floods because it had a raised basement designed by court architect Josef Kliment Zobel. This practical design shows how people in that era adapted to the river's seasonal dangers.
