Kotelské lípy, Ancient linden grove in Osečná, Czech Republic
Kotelské lípy is a grove of three colossal linden trees that rise like a natural monument from the landscape. The largest specimen reaches about 25 meters tall with a trunk nearly 10 meters around, while the other two examples stand equally impressive in their massive form.
The grove originated roughly two thousand years ago and survived countless storms and conflicts, including medieval raids and later peasant uprisings. Its continuity through the centuries makes it a silent witness to the region's changing story.
The trees hold deep meaning for the community as gathering places where locals and visitors seek shelter beneath their canopy. Many people touch the bark and leave their hands resting on the warm wood, as if connecting with something enduring.
The grove is reachable from Osečná on foot by following a marked hiking path that leads toward the village edge. Good walking shoes are advisable since the ground can be damp and the surrounding area offers limited facilities.
