Muzeum Komenského

Muzeum Komenského occupies a Renaissance chateau in Přerov with permanent exhibitions on education, archaeology, and natural sciences displayed across six spacious rooms. The building contains collections of historical school supplies and materials spanning different periods throughout the ages.

The building was originally constructed as a Gothic castle for the Pernštejn family in the 15th century and later transformed into a Renaissance structure under Charles the Elder of Žerotín. This architectural shift reflects the stylistic changes that occurred in the region during the Renaissance period.

The museum holds collections dedicated to Jan Amos Comenius and displays historical classroom setups from the 17th century. These exhibits allow visitors to understand how teaching looked in earlier times and what materials were used back then.

The museum is easily located at Horní náměstí 7 in the town center and offers regular visiting hours throughout the week and on weekends. It is helpful to check ahead for any special exhibitions, as these can enhance your visit.

The museum operates three separate facilities: the main chateau building, Helfštýn Castle known for blacksmithing traditions, and the ORNIS ornithological research station. This variety allows visitors to explore different aspects of nature, history, and craftsmanship beyond the city limits.
