Sirotčí hrádek

Sirotčí hrádek is a Gothic castle ruin that sits on a limestone hill near Klentnice in South Moravia. The remains include walls with window openings and a multi-story palace structure built across two rocky outcrops.

Knight Siegfried Sirotek founded the castle in the 13th century, and it later changed hands several times, including under King Wenceslas III and the Dietrichstein family, before abandonment in 1575.

This cultural monument includes remains of an eight-meter-high wall with window openings and a three-story palace built across two limestone cliffs.

The ruin sits within a protected nature reserve and is visible from the surrounding landscape, making it easy to find. Visitors should expect uneven terrain and steep slopes, so proper footwear is recommended.

The ruin still preserves an ancient water cistern system and remnants of a prismatic watchtower, showing how medieval builders managed water supply on hilltop locations. These technical solutions were necessary because the castle sat on rocky terrain where water access was challenging.
