Svojkov Castle

Svojkov Castle is a Gothic fortress on sandstone cliffs with preserved walls and foundations that merge with the natural rock formations of the region. The structure displays typical medieval defensive features and uses the terrain's topography for strategic advantage.

The castle was founded in 1355 and served as a fortified stronghold throughout the medieval period. It gradually declined into ruin and was later recognized as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

The site bears the name of its medieval fortress and serves today as a reminder of defensive architecture from that era. Visitors can experience firsthand how castles were integrated into the landscape of the Bohemian sandstone region.

Access to the castle requires a moderate hike through forest paths from the parking area between Nový Bor and Zákupy villages. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for uneven ground and potentially slippery conditions, especially after rain.

Near the castle lies the Modlivý Mine, which has served as a pilgrimage site since 1772 according to local traditions believed to prevent plague outbreaks. This religious practice connects the fortress with a fascinating layer of local belief and regional history.
