Tylův památník, Cultural monument in Kutná Hora-Vnitřní Město, Czech Republic
Tylův památnik is a residential building featuring Baroque and Classical elements built upon Gothic foundations with a medallion relief bust mounted on its wall. The house sits in the old town center and displays layers of architectural changes across different periods.
The house was originally known as Dům u zlatého hřebene and gained its current look after a fire in 1823. The memorial medallion was added in 1862 to honor the famous resident born here.
The house honors Josef Kajetán Tyl, an important poet and playwright in Czech culture. Visitors can see the memorial plaque on the facade that preserves his memory.
The memorial sits in central Kutná Hora and is easily reached on foot from other historical sites nearby. It is visible from the street at all times and requires no special access to view from outside.
The building preserves its original Gothic foundations, which are far older than the visible Baroque facade. This hidden layer reveals how houses in this town were rebuilt over centuries while keeping their base walls intact.
