Sloup Proměnění Páně

This sandstone column in the town square features multiple stacked sections, each decorated with carved figures of saints and biblical characters arranged around the central scene. Four fountains with lion-shaped water spouts sit at the base, creating a complete monument.

The structure was built starting in 1719 as a response to the final plague outbreak that had struck the city. The original design underwent changes during construction and the work was completed in 1732.

The monument shows how people once honored saints and religious stories through public art in the town square. You can see this reflected in the careful placement of each figure and the choice of which characters appear on the column.

The column is located in a public square directly in front of the Church of the Assumption and is easy to find in the town center. The space around it is open, allowing you to walk around and view it from different angles.

Instead of the originally planned pyramid shape, the column has a cloud-like spiral form that curves upward. This surprising change during construction makes it visually different from other similar religious monuments in the area.
