Budova Spolku výtvarných umělců Mánes, Exhibition venue in New Town, Czech Republic.
Budova Spolku výtvarných umělců Mánes is a modernist building in Prague that sits on an island in the Vltava River and connects the riverbank promenade to Slovanský Island. The structure houses an exhibition space and functions as an art center with regular display programs.
The Mánes Artists Association acquired the site in 1926 and built their structure between 1928 and 1930 under the design of Otakar Novotný. The construction received backing from President Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, who supported the modern artistic movement.
The building continues to function as a gathering place for artists and features rotating exhibitions of Czech and international work. The shows here reflect the artistic directions that Mánes has championed since the early 1900s.
The building sits on an island in the Vltava River and is easily reached from both riverbanks. Visitors can enter freely during opening hours and find short walking distances to reach the gallery spaces inside.
The structure underwent three major overhauls between 1980 and 2014 that restored its original 1930s design while adding contemporary systems. These restoration phases brought modern utilities and visitor comfort without changing its appearance.
