Přírodní park Maloskalsko, Nature park in Malá Skála, Czech Republic
Přírodní park Maloskalsko is a protected area spanning around 2,900 hectares on both sides of the Jizera River, combining sandstone rock formations with mixed forests. The terrain rises from lower elevations to higher ridges, creating varied natural habitats throughout the park.
The protected area was established in 1997 by the Municipal Office of Jablonec nad Nisou following local residents' requests to expand conservation efforts in the Český ráj region. This decision came from grassroots efforts to safeguard the area.
Traditional villages within the park display local building styles using materials and techniques typical of Northern Bohemia. These settlements shape how the landscape looks and reveal how people have adapted to living in this region.
You can reach the park from Malá Skála town where central parking areas are available. The town limits vehicle access in certain zones to protect the environment and encourage walking.
The park contains the Ondříkovický pseudokarst system, a rare geological formation featuring underground cavities and sinkhole-like structures. Within this unusual limestone landscape, specialized plant species like lady's slipper orchids and white-flowered crocuses thrive.
