Píčův statek, Medieval farm ruins in Mnichovo Hradiště, Czech Republic
Píčův statek is a ruined farm on the rocky Hrada plateau overlooking Mnichovo Hradiště. The site preserves stone walls, a vaulted stone gateway, and underground cellar structures carved into the terrain.
The farm is first documented in 1554 and was acquired by the Píč family in 1716, who ran it for over 2 centuries. The property fell into decline after state seizure in the 1950s ended private ownership.
The farm developed into a significant agricultural establishment, operating on 25 hectares of land with fields, meadows, pastures, and notable horse breeding facilities.
The ruins sit along the Golden Path hiking trail that crosses the Český ráj landscape. The plateau is easily reached on foot and visitors can explore the cellar foundations and remains of the drying house.
Vladimír Píč, the estate owner, was arrested during nationalization and forced to work in quarries rather than manage his inherited farm. This personal tragedy reflects the broader upheaval of property seizures that transformed rural life.
