Milíř, Observation tower in Vysoká nad Labem, Czech Republic.
Milíř is a wooden observation tower standing 31 meters tall, built on three laminated timber columns with a hexagonal viewing platform at 27 meters. The structure was completed in 2013 to serve visitors exploring the Vysoká nad Labem area.
A triangulation tower occupied this summit from 1930 to 1950, serving surveying purposes during that era. The present wooden tower was built in 2013 to replace it and continue the site's role as a viewpoint.
The name Milíř refers to charcoal makers who worked on this hill during medieval times. Their trade left a lasting mark on the local landscape and history.
Reaching the viewing deck requires climbing about 160 steps, with rest platforms located at roughly 12 and 18 meters to allow breaks during the ascent. The moderate grade and breaks make the climb accessible for most visitors.
The structure required closure and restoration in 2022 after woodpeckers created cavities in the wooden support columns. This natural damage highlighted how even contemporary wooden structures remain vulnerable to wildlife activity.
